Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
