19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to get a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better serve.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
